The mission of Community Greenhouse Partners is to improve the quality of life of those around us


We are delighted and honored to host a half-day workshop with Peter Donovan of the Soil Carbon Coalition. Peter is an internationally recognized expert on the carbon cycle, and on the ways in which we can support the conversion of atmospheric carbon into water-holding, fertility-enhancing, soil organic matter. His non-profit organization, The Soil Carbon Coalition, has as its mission advancing the practice, and spreading awareness of the opportunity, for doing this.
In this workshop Peter will tell the fascinating and little-known story of the discovery of the carbon cycle and of its relation to water, and will describe what some of the innovative ranchers and farmers he has worked with are doing to enhance these functions. He will facilitate a discussion designed to engage the creativity of the group in identifying ways in which we can each support the conversion of atmospheric carbon into soil organic matter on the land with respect to which we are stewards.

The principal project of the Soil Carbon Coalition is the Soil Carbon Challenge, an international prize competition to see how fast land managers can turn atmospheric carbon into water-holding, fertility-enhancing soil organic matter. Peter is currently touring the continent in a converted school bus, collecting baseline data against which increases in carbon sequestration will be measured over the next decade+, consulting, and offering workshops on the carbon cycle to people in the position to effect positive change through their land management and usage choices – be they backyard gardeners, urban farmers, larger scale farmers or ranchers.
